AJA KONA-XM-NF for Medical: 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 Ultra-Low Latency PCIe card, passive cooling, no fan
Description
KONA XM - Next-Generation Medical Video I/O Technology
KONA XM represents a new generation of I/O technology from AJA that allows medical OEM developers to leverage streaming DMA (Direct Memory Access) to ensure ultra-low latency for the most mission-critical video applications, including surgical and medical video hardware devices. KONA XM is designed and certified to be the heart of the next-generation medical video technology solutions.
KONA XM is a 4-lane, PCIe 3.0 video I/O card with dual 12G-SDI BNC connections, one for input and one for output, and two full-sized HDMI 2.0 connections, one for input and one for output. KONA XM provides an ultra-low latency design, which enables powerful real-time workflows with no perceptible delay on I/O and processing.
KONA XM lets OEM developers achieve sub-frame latencies with GPUDirect DMA; the ability to transfer data from host memory into a hardware accelerator and stream the results back to host memory without using local FPGA memory as a temporary buffer.
KONA XM supports video healthcare innovation by developing world-class video devices that are ideally suited for OEM customers looking for reliable, best-in-class video I/O technology.

Next Generation Medical Procedures with NVIDIA IGX and Holoscan
AJA KONA XM is the recommended video I/O solution for NVIDIA’s IGX edge computing AI hardware platform. KONA XM integrates seamlessly with NVIDIA Holoscan, a deployable software solution targeting IGX and other NVIDIA platforms. The combination of NVIDIA IGX and Holoscan makes it easy for medical device manufacturers to apply real-time, low latency, high-performance AI-driven overlays to live video in a variety of medical devices and create innovative medical video solutions.
Ultra-Low Latency / Streaming DMA
KONA XM supports application-driven streaming DMA (Direct Memory Access); the DMA operation happens directly between the video I/O and computer buffer, completely bypassing the on-card memory. This enables OEM developers to achieve as low as sub-frame latencies and a much simpler method of dealing with dynamic video (i.e., video whose frame rate may wander or generated video that needs to be generated much closer to the scan line it's output).
KONA XM Augmented Reality Assisted Surgery Workflow Diagram
In this workflow example, the video signal is coming into the KONA XM inside a medical device computer system from two separate video sources: a remotely controllable PTZ camera, and the robotic surgical device up to UltraHD/4K. The signal is then processed in the medical device's computing platform and the video signal with the AI/AR overlay is then fed into the surgical workstation.
IEC 60601-1-2 EMI/ESD Certification
KONA XM has undergone the rigorous testing to qualify for use in medical devices by meeting the IEC 60601-1-2 EMI/ESD Certification—one of the few video I/O cards on the market to do so.
Two Cooling Options
KONA XM is available in both active (with fan) and passive (fanless) cooling versions.
